Why Iceland’s DJ Margeir is single-handedly revolutionizing in-flight musical entertainment.
The finest music something edgy, with that intangible, soul-lifting quality gives Margeir Ingólfsson goose bumps. Margeir who recently celebrated two decades of mixing sounds at the best clubs in Reykjavík and elsewhere in Europe, may be best known in his home country for being one of the longest-standing and most successful DJs in the country, but he’s taken on a new challenge that makes his skin tingle.
Margeir has turned his sights to Icelandair’s in-flight music system. Margeir has selected 40 albums and created seven unique playlists comprising the most exciting Icelandic and international music and by “most exciting”, he doesn’t just mean most well known.
Icelandair’s musical revamp is part of its broader philosophy to maximize the positive travel experience for its passengers, giving them a taste of Iceland even if they travel no further than Keflavík Airport. The idea with the music is that passengers can choose from any playlist and listen to a carefully composed mix without making any effort or they can select individual tunes or albums using their touch screen menu. The playlists will be changed every three months.
